Dormakaba is the result of 2 merger companies-former Dorma and former Kaba in September 2015. With over 16000 employees in 50 countries, Dormakaba is the third worldwide company in the market for access and security solutions. The global security group is based in Rumlang, Switzerland and it’s listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange.
In 2015, the company merged with Dorma. The history of Kaba begins in Zurich in 1862. Franz Bauer is the founder, who later in 1915 sold the company to Leo Bodmer. Under the patronage of Leo B., the company gets a new name. It is called Bauer AG. The first patent appeared in 1934 when Fritz Schor invented the cylinder with a reversible key. The patent gets the name of the initial company, Kaba. The company expanded throughout Europe and in 1995, Bauer Holding AG became Kab Holding AG. Dorma, originally from Germany started its life as a company in 1908. In 1950 Dorma was in the door-closers business, but in 1962 they were producing the first automatic door. The company did not stop here, such that in 1976 they added glass to the product range, and in ’78 the production became international. More than that in 1987 the enterprise specialises in safety solutions and emergency exit control systems.
